This event is triggered by a visit from American Professor – Nicholas Pinter. He describes himself as a river/flooding person, although “managed retreat” is a part of his broader intrest. In the USA, there have been around 30 town relocations and they span a remarkable range of successes and failures and human foibles; each one is a colorful story, and together they are a guidebook for future managed retreat. Nicholas is also involved in similar research in Japan.
