SUMMARY:Building community resilience for the future to extreme storm surge events
DESCRIPTION:Guest speaker – Dwayne Honor – Bundaberg Regional Council\nJoin us to hear from Dwayne Honor on his Churchill Fellow sponsored trip to the Philippines and USA – namely New Orleans and New York –  in 2016. \nDwayne’s Churchill Fellowship was to research key impacts and learning’s from extreme storm tide in the Philippines and United States in order to adapt communities in Australia to these risks. What is storm surge? What have been the greatest impacts faced by communities overseas? How do we build community resilience to these events and leverage the experience from Typhoon Yolanda\, Hurricane Katrina and Hurricane Sandy? These topics will be covered along with some key recommendations for a Queensland context. \nDetails of the seminar\n\nRegister from 3:30pm for a 4:00pm start\nDetailed presentation from Dwayne on his experiences and what he see how learning can be applied to Queensland\nInteractive question from the audience\nPost seminar networking and hospitality\n\n \nPowered by Eventbrite\n  \nBackground on Dwayne\nDwayne Honor has been working in local government for over 12 years and was educated at Central Queensland University (Rockhampton). He has degrees with Distinction in Engineering Technology and Business Administration and was elected to the QLD Board of IPWEA in 2015. He was awarded IPWEAQ Young Engineer of the Year in 2013 for flood recovery efforts in the Bundaberg region and has spent 5 years working on preparation\, response and recovery to major flooding. He led the Burnett River Floodplain Action Plan after the devastating impacts of the 2013 flood which won the national 2015 FMA NRMA Insurance Flood Excellence Award.
