SUMMARY:Geomorphology and floodplain management
DESCRIPTION:Overview of the Day\nThroughout this day we will explore with you the science of geomorphology in creek channels and along floodplains and match it with practioner applications in their various and diverse roles on managing rural and regional floodplains. \nJoin us from 10:00 am for registration and morning tea then: \n\n10:30 – 12:00 insights from the ARC Linkage research project “The Big Flood: Will it happen again” (www.thebigflood.com.au) with project leads Jacky Croke and Chris Thompson\n12:00 – 14:00 Lunch and field inspection of local creek sites\n14:00 – 16:00 Interactive panel session with practioners from Lockyer Valley Regional Council and Ipswich City Council\, SEQ Water and a peak Rural Group – where we discuss their floodplain planning and management needs and the application of information on geomorphological profiles.\n\nAlong the way faciliator – Piet Filet – will ensure that there is plenty of audience participation and that additional materials from research posters\, maps and website resources can be examined. \nFor lunch and the site inspection – do bring a hat and comfortable shoes to be walking outside and along a creek bank. \nWhat are my transport options for getting to and from the event?\nBrisbane based participants can join a bus that will\, travel to and from the event. It will leave at 8:45am in the Brisbane CBD AT 266 GEORGE STREET  – Brisbane Square – outside the enterance to the BCC/Suncorp complex –  and return to Brisbane leaving Gatton after 4:00pm. Please tick the box on the order form and many thanks to the SEQWater team for providing the bus. \nOther participants travelling by car to Gatton need to move through the centre of town and take the western exit Western Drive to Toowoomba to arrive at the Cultural centre beside Apex Lake. \n  \n\n \nPowered by Eventbrite
